AI readiness check: is your company ready for AI?
Whether an AI project succeeds rarely depends on the technology — it depends on use case, data, systems, data protection and team. This free self-assessment checks nine of these factors in three minutes and places your company in one of three readiness levels, with concrete next steps.
AI readiness check: how ready is your company for AI?
Answer nine questions about your most important AI initiative. You get a placement in one of three readiness levels and concrete next steps. Your answers stay in your browser and are not stored.
What the results mean
Each level describes the most sensible next step — not a grade for your company.
Level 1: Explore
Before an AI project makes sense, clarify the use case and data situation. A short use-case workshop with an experienced AI consultant is usually the best next step.
Level 2: Pilot-ready
The foundations are in place. A bounded pilot (proof of value) with a measurable goal is realistic. Close the gaps listed below first, and compare experts who have already delivered this exact use case.
Level 3: Scale-ready
Ownership, data and integration are largely settled. You can think about production rollout and further use cases. Plan for operation, monitoring and further development (MLOps).
How the scoring works
Each of the nine questions gives 0, 1 or 2 points, up to 18 in total. 0 to 7 points means level 1 (Explore), 8 to 13 level 2 (Pilot-ready), 14 to 18 level 3 (Scale-ready).
Two questions act as a brake: if the business problem is unclear or usable data is missing (0 points each), the result stays at level 1 regardless of the other answers. Without these two foundations, pilots fail most often.
Limits: the check is a structured guide based on practical AI project experience — not a scientifically validated instrument and not a benchmark against other companies. It does not replace an expert review of your specific project.
AI readiness check — common questions
What is an AI readiness check? +
An AI readiness check tests whether a company has the prerequisites for a successful AI project: a clear business problem, stable processes, usable data, connectable systems, settled data protection, an owner, budget, team buy-in and a measurable success metric.
How long does the check take and what does it cost? +
The self-assessment on this page takes about three minutes and is free. Your answers are evaluated only in your browser and not stored.
What do I do with the result? +
At level 1, a use-case workshop to clarify the use case and data comes first. At level 2, a bounded pilot with a measurable goal makes sense. At level 3, the focus is operation, integration and further use cases. You find suitable experts for each level on Die KI Plattform.
Is the check scientifically validated? +
No. It is a practical guide with openly documented scoring, not a validated instrument and not a comparison with other companies.
What is the difference between an AI readiness check and an AI potential analysis? +
The readiness check tests whether the prerequisites for an AI initiative are met. An AI potential analysis goes further: experts examine your processes and data and assess which use cases pay off. The check is a good preparation for that.
Is the check suitable for SMEs? +
Yes, it is designed especially for mid-sized companies without a data team. The questions apply equally to startups and larger companies.
